Growing up in Ennis, within a few miles of Shannon airport, perhaps its not too surprising that Dómhnal Slattery has dedicated his career to working in the aviation sector. Like so many of the industry’s high flyers he started with Guinness Peat Aviation (GPA) in Shannon and later GECAS.
Over the years, throughout his career, Dómhnal has established a proven track record in establishing and scaling industry leading aircraft leasing businesses.
The ability to build and rapidly scale a market-leading aircraft leasing platform is evident in his successful establishment of IAMG, RBS Aviation Capital and Avolon through three business cycles – from the early 1990’s to today.
Patrick Blaney, chairman of the Aircraft Leasing, Finance and Law Programme at UCD Graduate School of Business (and former Chief Executive of GPA Group) commented:
“Ireland has, over the past 40 years, become synonymous with aircraft leasing a growth industry which today finances 45 percent of the commercial jet aircraft in service. Within that sector, Dómhnal Slattery has, over a 27-year career, established himself and those businesses which he has led, as global leaders in this competitive field.
From a start up six years ago, Avolon, with the recent CIT deal, will become the No.3 company in this sector with US$43 billion in assets and more than 900 aircraft in its portfolio spread over 154 customers in 61 countries.
It is fitting that The Aviation Industry acknowledge his achievements and significant contribution to the sector not just here in Ireland but internationally, with this award.”
The organisors of the Aviation Industry Awards are delighted to present Dómhnal Slattery with this year’s ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Aviation Industry’ award.
