Industry NewsAviramp supplies solar-powered boarding ramp to Ireland West Airport
Aviramp, a United Kingdom-based aviation manufacturer in Telford, has secured a deal with Ireland West Airport to supply a solar-powered step-free aircraft boarding ramp, according to Shropshire Live.
The company, a global leader in the manufacture of step-free aircraft boarding ramps, reports the new all-weather ramp is proving successful since introduction.
Adam Corfield, head of global sales at Aviramp, stated feedback from the airport since the ramp was commissioned has been fantastic. The ramp was deployed on three flights, all of which had multiple wheelchairs that would usually require a highlift. The Aviramp eliminated the need for highlift equipment, making turnarounds considerably quicker.
The airport is advancing solar-powered ground handling equipment, with management impressed by what Aviramp provides. The company has experienced tremendous growth globally over the past 18 months, with more than 950 ramps now in use across the globe. Ireland represents a market the company will continue to develop, with further deals anticipated in coming years.
John McCarthy, head of airport operations and commercial services at Ireland West Airport, stated the organisation was delighted to work with Aviramp in installing the new state-of-the-art system. The boarding ramp provides multiple benefits including improved operational efficiency, enhanced passenger experience, cost savings, and sustainability focus.
The new boarding ramp is step-free with a gentle slope, making it easier for passengers with reduced mobility, wheelchair users, and parents with prams or young children. By providing additional shelter when boarding aircraft, it represents another positive development to enhance facilities for passengers at the airport.
Ross Underhill, Aviramp's health and safety manager, travelled to Knock to oversee staff training in the use of the new ramp.
