Galetech launches Ireland’s first e-fuel facility to cut airline emissions
Ireland is entering a new era of sustainable aviation with Galetech Group preparing to launch the country’s first e-fuel facility for aviation.
The facility will supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to major airlines including Aer Lingus, Ryanair, and Lufthansa, reducing the carbon footprint of flights operating in and out of Ireland.
Galetech Group, a leader in renewable energy solutions, aims to address aviation’s role in global CO2 emissions with synthetic fuels derived from renewable sources like CO2 and green hydrogen. “Galetech Group has taken the first step in transforming this vision into reality,” the company said.
Aer Lingus, the national carrier, has committed to using SAF to meet Ireland’s ambitious carbon reduction targets. “The facility will help Aer Lingus meet its carbon reduction targets, aligning with Ireland’s ambitious goals to become a leader in green aviation,” a company spokesperson stated. Ryanair, Europe’s largest low-cost airline, is expanding its green initiatives, while Lufthansa has already operated commercial flights powered by SAF.
The facility’s launch is expected to have broader economic effects beyond aviation. Tourism and hospitality sectors in Ireland are poised to benefit from increased demand for eco-friendly travel options, sustainable hotels, and green tourism experiences. Businesses in these sectors are already adopting sustainable practices, from renewable energy use to waste reduction, creating synergy with the country’s green aviation initiative.
E-fuels are compatible with existing aircraft and airport infrastructure, enabling airlines to reduce emissions without significant operational changes. Both short-haul and long-haul flights will be able to use e-fuel, making sustainable travel more accessible across Europe.
As airlines adopt SAF, travelers can increasingly choose flights with a lower environmental impact, further driving investment in sustainable aviation.
