Industry NewsLufthansa Technik Philippines plans $100 million-plus Clark Airport facility to expand widebody MRO capacity
German MRO provider Lufthansa Technik Philippines has announced a three-digit million-dollar investment to construct a new 157,000 sqm base maintenance facility at Clark International Airport in the Philippines, with operations scheduled to commence in 2028 and capacity for up to nine widebody aircraft bays.
According to Aviation Business News, the facility is expected to create approximately 1,200 highly skilled jobs and will add the Boeing 787 to Lufthansa Technik Philippines' existing maintenance portfolio, which covers the Airbus A330, A340, A350 and A380 as well as the Boeing 777.
The announcement was made on 16 June 2026 during the state visit of German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who met with Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at Malacañan Palace in Manila. Both heads of state acknowledged the project as a milestone in German-Philippine economic cooperation.
The Clark facility will be Lufthansa Technik's second location in the Philippines, complementing its long-established site at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, where the company has operated for more than 25 years and recently secured a long-term lease extension. Lufthansa Technik said both locations together would form a widebody MRO hub and strengthen the company's presence across the Asia-Pacific region.
Soeren Stark, chief executive of Lufthansa Technik, said Asia-Pacific was one of the fastest-growing aviation markets in the world and the Philippines were central to the company's regional strategy. "With the investment in the new site in Clark, we are taking the next decisive step in our growth strategy and positioning Lufthansa Technik for the future of aviation well beyond the borders of this region," he said.
Holger Beck, chief executive of Lufthansa Technik Philippines, described the Manila and Clark sites as two complementary pillars of growth. "Together they mark an exciting new chapter for Lufthansa Technik Philippines," he said.
The investment reflects sustained demand for widebody MRO capacity across Asia-Pacific, where fleet growth among carriers in Southeast Asia, Australia, China and Japan continues to outpace available maintenance infrastructure. Clark International Airport has emerged as a growing centre for aviation services in the Philippines, attracting investment from both domestic and international operators seeking alternatives to the congested Ninoy Aquino International Airport precinct in Manila.
