Manchester Airport won both the Communications Award and the Airport Achievement Award at the Aviation Industry Awards UK 2026, recognised for delivering its £1.3bn Terminal 2 transformation programme while keeping live 24/7 operations running.

The Airport Achievement Award recognised the delivery of the programme itself. Manchester Airport completed major infrastructure upgrades, introduced operational innovation, and worked collaboratively with partners to modernise Terminal 2. The result was improved passenger experience, greater operational resilience, and added future capacity, strengthening the airport's role as the international gateway for the North.

Judges said: "The programme has delivered significant infrastructure enhancements, strengthened safety performance, and improved airport operations through strong leadership and governance. With measurable outcomes and a clear focus on long term improvement, Manchester Airport demonstrates the impact of strategic transformation in aviation."

The Communications Award recognised the "Your New T2" campaign, which turned a once-in-a-generation infrastructure programme into a shared regional story. Through creative storytelling, immersive engagement, and coordinated communications, the campaign supported operational readiness, strengthened passenger confidence, and built pride among colleagues.

On the Communications Award, the panel said: "This entrant showcased the true value of communication by bringing stakeholders, employees, and communities together throughout the Terminal 2 transformation. Through operational readiness trials, open days, stakeholder tours, city centre activations, and immersive experiences, Manchester Airport created meaningful engagement around the change journey. The combination of clear storytelling and innovative communication methods demonstrates how effective engagement can support major transformation programmes."

Together, the two wins show how delivery and communication worked side by side on a single programme. Infrastructure and operational performance were matched by sustained engagement with passengers, employees, stakeholders, and the wider community.

The awards were presented at the gala ceremony held on 22 September 2026 at the Park Plaza London Riverbank.
