Aer Lingus Regional, exclusively operated by Emerald Airlines and the largest carrier at Belfast City Airport, has announced a major capacity expansion on its Belfast City–Southampton route for Summer 2026.

The airline is adding more than 17,000 seats to meet growing demand linked to one of the UK’s busiest cruise ports.

The enhanced schedule introduces eight additional weekly flights commencing in April 2026, alongside a new Saturday mid‑morning departure from Belfast City Airport at 10:55 and an early‑afternoon departure from Southampton Airport at 13:05. These timings have been carefully aligned with cruise boarding and disembarking schedules.

Ian Lough, Head of Commercial at Emerald Airlines, said: “We are delighted to offer even more choice, flexibility and conveniently-timed flights for passengers travelling between Belfast City Airport and Southampton. These additional seats and improved timings will offer passengers even more choice this upcoming Summer season.”

The route frequency has been increased throughout the week to provide greater flexibility for both leisure and business travellers. The move is expected to support strong passenger growth over the peak summer period, as well as maintain high service standards for time-sensitive travel linked to cruise itineraries.

Ellie McGimpsey, Aviation Development Manager at Belfast City Airport, commented: “At Belfast City Airport, we are committed to delivering strong regional connectivity from the heart of Belfast. The expansion of Aer Lingus Regional’s Belfast City–Southampton service further builds on this, particularly ahead of the peak cruise season. Combined with our excellent security times, these additional frequencies and enhanced timings will ensure our passengers enjoy greater choice and convenience this summer.”
