Industry NewsAirbus launches Bengaluru technology centre for engineering and maintenance support
Airbus, a France-based aircraft manufacturer, has opened a new technology centre in Bengaluru, India, to strengthen engineering capability, digital innovation, and technical expertise in support of global aircraft programmes and the aviation maintenance sector, according to Aviation Week.
The Airbus India Technology Center is one of the OEM's largest engineering and digital centres outside Europe, spanning 880,000 square feet with capacity to host around 5,000 employees.
The facility will bring together engineering, digital transformation, customer services, and procurement functions under one roof, creating a collaborative hub that supports Airbus' global operations whilst reinforcing its long-term Make in India commitment.
Jürgen Westermeier, President and Managing Director of Airbus India and South Asia, stated the centre will allow the company to "expand engineering and innovation capabilities while strengthening customer services and procurement operations."
Engineers at the centre will contribute to the entire life cycle of Airbus aircraft and helicopter programmes, supporting activities ranging from design and development to fleet maintenance, upgrades, and performance optimisation. Their work is increasingly tied to advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, and digital engineering platforms, becoming essential tools for modern aircraft maintenance and fleet management.
Beyond engineering development, the Airbus India Technology Center is expected to play a role in strengthening India's aviation talent base, particularly in areas related to aircraft maintenance engineering and technical services. The OEM aims to use the centre as a hub where Indian engineers and technical professionals can gain exposure to global aircraft programmes, advanced maintenance technologies, and complex engineering challenges.
The facility will also host a local chapter of Airbus Leadership University, offering specialised training and professional development programmes to prepare the next generation of aerospace engineers, technical managers, and industry leaders.
