Industry NewsAzorra delivers first ATR 42-600 to JSX for US regional network expansion
Florida-based aircraft lessor Azorra has delivered the first of two ATR 42-600 turboprop aircraft on lease to Dallas-based public charter carrier JSX, supporting the carrier's expansion into underserved regional airports across the United States.
According to Aviation Business News, the delivery marks a new North American customer relationship for Azorra and expands its leased asset footprint in the regional aviation sector. A second ATR 42-600 from the same lease agreement is scheduled for delivery at a later date.
The ATR 42-600 provides JSX with the performance characteristics required to access thousands of smaller domestic airports unable to sustain scheduled service from mainline network carriers, allowing the carrier to bypass congested primary hubs and optimise utilisation rates while mitigating hub-and-spoke delays.
Jeff Simmons, chief financial officer at JSX, said fuel and product efficiency had become critical priorities for regional operators. "Balancing product and fuel efficiency is more important now than ever before and we appreciate Azorra's partnership as JSX looks to shape the next generation of regional air travel," he said.
Michael Davis, chief marketing officer at Azorra, said the delivery built on JSX's decade of innovation in connecting underserved airports. "JSX continues to innovate by connecting underserved airports across the United States and enabling travelers to bypass congested airport hubs," he said.
The acquisition arrives as regional operators face ongoing fleet utilisation pressures and volatile fuel spreads, driving closer alignment between capacity management and asset efficiency across the sector.
The ATR 42-600 is a twin turboprop regional aircraft capable of operating from short and unprepared runways, making it well-suited to the thin-route, underserved market that JSX targets. The type offers significantly lower fuel burn per seat than comparable regional jets, a consideration of growing importance as carriers across North America seek to reduce operating costs on lower-density routes.
