Delta TechOps, the MRO division of US carrier Delta Air Lines, has announced an eight-year exclusive maintenance contract with Indian budget carrier IndiGo, covering CFM56-5B engine support across 20 engines in IndiGo's Airbus A320ceo fleet.

According to Aviation Business News, the partnership marks the first major collaboration between the two companies and establishes Delta TechOps' first significant presence in the Indian MRO market.

Marc Meredith, senior vice president and chief commercial operator for Delta TechOps, said India represented one of the most dynamic and fastest-growing aviation markets in the world. "This partnership positions Delta TechOps at the centre of that growth," he said. "High-utilisation fleets require more than technical expertise; these fleets demand reliability, scale and consistent execution."

IndiGo operates one of the world's largest A320-family fleets and continues to expand its narrowbody capacity, with additional A320neo and A321neo aircraft on order well into the next decade. The carrier's high utilisation rates place significant demand on engine maintenance cycles, making long-term MRO partnerships a critical component of its operational strategy.

The CFM56-5B is the sole powerplant option for the A320ceo family and remains one of the most widely operated commercial jet engines globally, with thousands of examples in service across airlines in Asia, Europe and the Americas.

India's MRO sector has attracted growing international interest in recent years, driven by the country's rapid aviation expansion. IndiGo alone carried more than 100 million passengers in the financial year ending March 2024, underlining the scale of maintenance demand generated by its operations.

Delta TechOps provides MRO services to more than 150 carriers worldwide from its primary maintenance base in Atlanta, Georgia.
