Discover Airlines touches down at Shannon Airport on inaugural Frankfurt service

Lufthansa Group leisure carrier Discover Airlines has operated its first-ever flight to Ireland, with Flight 4Y1500 departing Frankfurt Airport on 25 April 2026 and touching down at Shannon Airport on schedule after a flight time of approximately two hours and ten minutes aboard an Airbus A320.

According to Aviation Source News, the service marks Discover Airlines' inaugural destination in Ireland and forms part of the airline's short-haul expansion for the 2026 summer season. The weekly Saturday service will operate between Frankfurt and Shannon until late October, with some indications of additional Thursday departures from Frankfurt during certain phases of the season.

Shannon Airport is located in County Clare on Ireland's west coast and serves as a gateway to the Wild Atlantic Way, the 2,600-kilometre coastal touring route that stretches along Ireland's western seaboard. The airport provides access to Limerick, Galway and key tourism destinations including the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren National Park.

As a leisure-focused subsidiary fully integrated into the Lufthansa Group's global network, Discover Airlines offers passengers coordinated connections, shared frequent flyer benefits and through-baggage handling via Frankfurt, one of Europe's busiest aviation hubs.

The route strengthens direct air links between Germany and western Ireland at a time when Shannon is actively positioning itself as an alternative international gateway to Dublin for inbound tourism. Germany represents one of Ireland's key source markets for overseas visitors, with direct connectivity a significant driver of tourist arrivals to regional destinations along the Atlantic coast.

The return service from Shannon departs around midday, arriving back in Frankfurt in the early afternoon, enabling same-day connections across the Lufthansa Group's wider European and intercontinental network.
