Philippine MRO provider Dornier Technology is significantly expanding its maintenance operations at Clark International Airport, with a second hangar now operational and a third facility scheduled to open by the end of Q3 2026, as airlines across Asia face mounting pressure securing maintenance capacity.

According to Aviation Business News, Dornier Technology currently operates Hangar 1, a 4,705 sqm facility capable of accommodating one narrowbody or two turboprop aircraft simultaneously. The newly operational Hangar 2 spans 4,401 sqm and can handle up to four turboprop aircraft at the same time. The planned Hangar 3, also 4,705 sqm, is designed to accommodate two narrowbody aircraft simultaneously. The company also has access to a fourth 2,250 sqm hangar supporting two turboprop aircraft.

Expanding from one to three hangars represents a 194% increase in capacity, rising to 241% if the fourth hangar is fully utilised.

A significant addition within the expansion programme is full aircraft painting capability for narrowbody and ATR aircraft, enabling combined heavy maintenance and repaint services from a single location. Nick Gitsis, chief executive of Dornier Technology, said aircraft lessors repositioning aircraft between operators frequently struggled to secure MRO providers able to perform both heavy airframe checks and full repaint work in one location. "With this capability, Dornier Technology is well-placed to offer a comprehensive one-stop maintenance and painting package," he said.

Gitsis said the expansion was driven by strong regional demand, with particular opportunity among low-cost carriers in Southeast Asia and airlines in Northeast Asia, where labour shortages were most acute.
