Industry NewsEmirates prepares to operate world's first Starlink-equipped Airbus A380 after UK certification
Dubai-based carrier Emirates is preparing to operate the world's first Starlink-powered Airbus A380 following certification of the aircraft installation in the UK, marking a significant step in the airline's programme to equip its entire widebody fleet with satellite internet connectivity.
According to AeroTime, the first fitted A380 registered A6-EEA returned to Dubai on 24 April 2026 following installation and certification in the UK. Emirates has not confirmed a date for the aircraft's first revenue service with Starlink active.
Due to the A380's double-deck layout and high passenger capacity, the installation requires three Starlink antennas, compared with two on Emirates' Boeing 777. The A380 configuration also features additional wireless access points throughout the cabin.
An Emirates spokesperson said the installation was designed to meet the specific demands of the superjumbo's layout. "This industry-first Starlink configuration is capable of delivering more than 2 Gbps of total aircraft bandwidth across the cabin," the spokesperson said.
Emirates announced plans to fit Starlink across its full fleet of Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s on the opening day of Dubai Airshow 2025, targeting approximately 14 aircraft per month. A380 installations began in February 2026, with work subsequently shifting to Emirates Engineering facilities in Dubai to accelerate the rollout.
The airline said 25 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft are already equipped with Starlink, with more than 650,000 passengers having accessed the service across those flights to date.
Starlink, operated by SpaceX, uses a low-earth orbit satellite constellation to deliver high-speed broadband, offering significantly lower latency than traditional geostationary satellite systems previously used for in-flight connectivity.
