FedEx is making logistics history by acquiring the world’s first ATR 72-600 aircraft converted from passenger to freighter use — a move that signals deeper investment in flexible, cost-efficient regional air cargo. Set for delivery by December, the retrofit expands FedEx’s fleet agility while modernising legacy aircraft without committing to new builds.

The conversion, led by ACIA Aero Leasing and Empire Aerospace, underscores growing demand for efficient feeder operations — especially across Europe and North America — where FedEx already operates dozens of ATR turboprops.
