Irish leasing firms manage majority of global leased aircraft, new figures show
Aircraft Leasing Ireland (ALI) members and their associated groups now control aircraft valued at more than $315bn (€271bn), representing 69% of the total value of all globally leased aircraft. The data, released ahead of the 2025 Aircraft Leasing Ireland summit, underscores the reach and influence of Ireland’s leasing sector in aviation.
In total, ALI-affiliated firms manage 9,504 aircraft with a further 2,383 on order. Over 95% of these new orders are for next-generation, fuel-efficient aircraft, with more than 80% sourced from Boeing or Airbus. Nearly two-thirds (62%) of the current fleet by value is comprised of new-technology aircraft, reflecting significant investment in sustainable aviation solutions.
Globally, leased aircraft make up 41% of total aircraft by number, yet account for 49% of total value, showing how leasing facilitates investment in efficient, modern technology. ALI members alone manage 64% of the global leased fleet, emphasising Ireland’s central role in aviation asset management worldwide.
The figures highlight how Ireland’s leasing industry is supporting airline fleet renewal, driving adoption of more efficient engines, and backing the deployment of sustainable aviation fuel. ALI Chair Karl Griffin noted that the sector’s strong investment in next-generation aircraft demonstrates a continued commitment to operational and environmental performance.
The ALI summit convenes industry leaders to discuss market opportunities and challenges, with a focus on fleet modernisation, sustainability, and strategic asset management. Ireland’s leasing companies remain a pivotal force in global aviation finance, offering airlines access to the latest aircraft and technology while supporting industry-wide carbon reduction initiatives.
Irish leasing firms continue to strengthen their global leadership, expanding influence over fleet efficiency, sustainability, and asset management practices.
