Tigerair Taiwan taps Stellar Entertainment to power its first inflight entertainment offering

Taipei-based low-cost carrier Tigerair Taiwan has appointed Stellar Entertainment as content service provider for its inaugural inflight entertainment offering, to be deployed across the airline's Airbus A320 fleet via Bluebox Aviation Systems' wireless streaming platform.

According to Aviation Business News, the system will enable passengers to stream content to their own personal devices, with Stellar curating and licensing a library drawn from international and regional distributors spanning films and television programming. Content will be tailored to Tigerair Taiwan's predominantly Asian route network, covering both leisure and business travel segments.

Stellar will draw on partnerships with Hollywood studios and Asian content providers to build the catalogue, with scope to expand the offering over time as the carrier develops its broader passenger-facing digital services.

Tigerair Taiwan said the partnership was intended to ensure a competitive content offering at launch, while Stellar noted the agreement strengthened its presence in the Asia-Pacific aviation market.

The appointment marks the first time Tigerair Taiwan has introduced an inflight entertainment system, forming part of a wider effort to enhance the airline's onboard digital experience as competition among low-cost carriers in the region intensifies.

Wireless bring-your-own-device IFE systems have become an increasingly common solution for low-cost carriers seeking to introduce entertainment without the capital expenditure associated with seat-back screen installations. The approach eliminates the weight and maintenance burden of embedded hardware while allowing content libraries to be updated remotely without aircraft downtime.

Tigerair Taiwan operates a fleet of Airbus A320-family aircraft on domestic and international routes across the Asia-Pacific region, serving destinations in Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia and mainland China.
