Wizz Air launches free pilot training in Ireland
Wizz Air has announced its first pilot recruitment drive in Ireland, offering fully funded training to candidates as it targets 1,200 new pilots across Europe by 2028. The airline, which does not currently operate flights to Ireland, will participate in Pilot Careers Live in Dublin on October 18.
The training programme spans six months of selection followed by two years of instruction, culminating in qualification as a Wizz Air pilot. Trainees will earn €46,000 during training, rising to €103,000 after two years and up to €230,000 upon promotion to captain. The initiative is designed to provide clear career progression and attract individuals seeking a career change.
Wizz Air’s recruitment drive aligns with its fleet expansion strategy, aiming to operate 500 aircraft by 2030 and grow its route network. The airline currently operates 243 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, serving over 62 million passengers across 750 routes in 54 countries.
The recruitment push will complement ongoing industry efforts to address pilot shortages while enhancing aviation skills across Europe. By offering full funding and structured career pathways, Wizz Air positions itself as a competitive choice for aspiring pilots and career changers alike.
The drive also coincides with wider industry engagement at Pilot Careers Live, featuring Aer Lingus, Ryanair, and other training organisations, showcasing opportunities for talent development and collaboration in aviation.
